Purchasing Songs from Mnet

In view of Son Dambi & After School’s digital single release, I’m going to provide a tutorial catered to us non-Koreans to allow us to BUY songs legally so we can support our artists the right way. One song costs only 600won (approx. < USD $1) so please spare just a few cents of your money to support your artist the right way.
What you need:
- Mnet account
- A credit or debit card
NOTE: It is important that you use Internet Explorer browser to access the MNET site because Korean sites are programmed to cater to IE users.
If you already have an MNET account, you can go straight to the Purchasing Song section.
Registering an MNET account
1) Go to http://www.mnet.com
Purchasing Songs
1) Login into your account
I’m going to use 오백만원’s MNET account to buy him the song.
Depositing Money into Your Account
Choose the amount you wish to deposit. One song costs 600 won. So if you wish to just buy one song, you can choose 1,000 won (the first option).
When your money has been added to your account this message will pop up:
(sorry don’t have screencap for this)
“회원님 감사합니다.”
It will also indicate the amount you have.
You can close the window
Buying the ACTUAL Song
Jump straight to AMOLED song page: http://music.mnet.com/ArtistAlbum/AlbumInfo.asp?AlbumID=181128
Jump straight to After School’s profile page: http://music.mnet.com/ArtistAlbum/ArtistInfo.asp?ArtistID=157997
You will be asked to install Quick Manager. Download and install it.
Now go buy your song and delete your illegally downloaded songs!

Thank you for showing me this tutorial I will now start supporting my favorite K-Pop and J-Pop artists honarably. Its hard to do when your an american though and Korean, Japanese,and Chinease aren’t your fluent language. This really helps out a lot !

Thanks for the instructions but I’m having one problem. I get a blank page after I click to register. When I try in firefox I can’t pass the second page. I’m wondering if anyone else is having this problem

Registration works only in IE. If you encounter errors, you should try again because sometimes these errors happen. If you still can’t get pass the registration page, perhaps you could provide us with more details so we can help you with it.

Well I finally got past it but my problem now is I’m not getting the Authentic number. I try sending it to my hotmail, yahoo mail, and gmail. I’m just having to worst of luck with this.

gmail should work fine although the first few times may not get you that authentication number. probably should just try again another day another time. if you still can’t get an account, we can help you create it.

Second, I’ve attempted to establish an MNET account a few times, but haven’t been receiving an authentification number at my e-mail address (I use a lesser well-known service called ‘Fastmail’). Could I get some help in creating one?

Thanks for this brilliant tutorial. My gf has recently got me in to K-Pop so finding this guide really helped me out!
Just a quick question to any who can help. Is it possible to download MVs of MNet as well as MP3s?

Unfortunately mnet doesn’t allow the download of MVs. The only site that has MV download service is GomTV but you’ll need a korean ID to pay for the downloads

Another question, sorry! ^^ I just realised I have accidentally dl’d the same song twice but at a different bitrate. The second time it didn’t take any payment from my account. Does it remember what you’ve purchased so you don’t get charged for something you’ve dl’d before?

Hmm we’ve never actually encountered such an incident before i.e. downloading songs at a different bit rate so we’re not so sure on that. But if you’re not charged for downloading the same song twice albeit at a different bit rate, that should be good news for you, shouldn’t it? ^^

Indeed! ^^ Not really well up on music download sites, MNet will be the first one I use properly. I’ve never even used iTunes.

Sometimes trying again at another time might help. The system is a little funky when it comes to registration wise but once you’ve gotten past it, it will be a breeze from then onwards.
If you’re still experiencing problems, we can help you register an account using our email and then we’ll changed the email back to yours.
We’ve already helped a few ppl do that before ^^

Thank you for doing this, but I have one problem… Whenever I click the download button, the quickmanager pops up, but then I get a window saying ‘program has stopped working’ immediately after.. :[
Is there any possible solutions?

Are you using Windows Vista?
If you are, you can add the Download Manager to the list of Data Execution Prevention
1) Start > Right click on Computer > Properties
2) Advanced System Settings > Advanced Tab > Click on Settings in the PERFORMANCE box
3) Data Execution Prevention Tab > Select “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those that I select:”
4) Click Add > Find Download Manager (filename: QuickManager2.exe) on your system > Click OK
5) Reboot system > Try downloading again

Hi, I have a question. I’m currently using a mac. I have managed to sign up though (i used someone’s PC). May I know whether I will be able to download the songs using my mac or I have to somehow get hold of a PC to do the downloading. Thanks!

Hi there,
Unfortunately, we have not tried downloading songs via Mac before therefore we are unable to provide a definite answer.
If you are using IE on bootcamp (Windows on Mac), high chances are you will be able to download the songs.
However if you’re using Safari or any other browsers, it is most likely that you may not be able to download using MAC. Reason being to download songs through the Download Manager, a plugin will be prompted to you and if you’re not using IE, you will likely not get the prompt. Hence, you won’t be able to download the songs.
We could be wrong however so it will be best if you try the download process. If you manage to get pass the Quick Manager (Download Manager) download process, you will definitely be able to download the songs.

this. is. AMAZING.
all this time (as in, 10 years of being immersed in kpop) i had NO idea i could buy digital releases.
i’ve always resorted to buying albums– and it’s sometimes disappointing when you spend $15 on a CD, and you only like 2-3 songs.
gosh i wonder if mnet has older songs as well– because those are the one’s i can’t even get a CD of anymore.

this tutorial was AWESOME! i got an account in no time and ready to buy songs
thank you SO much for the nice clear pictures (b/c for some reason, the korean font doesn’t show up sometimes)
NOTE: for anyone using gmail… check your SPAM for the authentication e-mail. it took me a while to figure that out and after requesting an authentication 7 times… i figured out where all those e-mails were going XD

I’ve asked many friends from other countries still no luck. Ugh it’s so annoying and then they ask why people download music illegal ’cause some just can’t make their system working for everyone. No to discrimination! It’s so unfair… T_T

For all those having authentication number problems, I have found a loophole.
If you or anyone you know owns an iPod touch, go through the registration forms using it. Somehow it magically bypasses all the requirements. The first time I did it, I even forgot to input a password and it still said it made an account (i can’t log in though…). Second time though, I put in my id, name, password, and email, and submitted, and it worked!!
Maybe this trick would work on a phone browser too?…

When you put your credit card number in, does Mnet try to link it with your real name? For example, I’m using my dad’s credit card, but I signed up using my name. Would it still be okay?

Yes it will be okay. As long as all the credit card information is accurate and valid, the payment will still be able to go through despite you registering with your own name.

Based on our tutorial above, you can see that you don’t have to choose whether it’s Master, Visa or AMEX so I believe American Express can indeed be used. Do give it a try (:
